Second Spring 2016 Honey Harvest

The first week of June we harvested honey from the hives at our out-yard.

There was 3 hives that we pulled supers from.

It was slightly overcast and sprinkling rain every so often, so we used a pop-up canopy to cover the hives while we worked.

Once back in the comfort of the dry (and air conditioned) basement, we began uncapping the frames.

After a few hours we had extracted all the honey and ended up with just under 15 gallons, and a total weight of 178 lbs.

So far this year, our combined home/out-yard hives have produced about 30 gallons, and a total weight of 360 pounds of honey.

Confession:  I am totally jealous.   We had a sort of harvest our first year and pretty much nothing since then.   This is my 5th year and likely no honey this year either unless the fall flow is big.    [I am up to 5 hives this year though, so maybe if I get even a frame or 2 from each hive I'd get a couple of gallons at least.   That'd be nice.]

Congratulations on your huge harvest!   Will you sell it?

We do sell our honey...This year we sold 90% of the honey in the first 24 hours after letting our friends and family know that we had honey available.
